The hacks of professional home cleaners

June 28th, 2019

Some people find putting on a pair of rubber gloves and making every surface shine therapeutic, while others dread the chore of cleaning.

It can be tempting to just hire someone else to do it, but these hacks from the professionals will have your home spick and span – without much huff and puff.

Repurpose your coffee filters

Your modern machine may not use them, but if you can get your hands on old-school coffee filters, you have the perfect cloth to clean TVs, phones and monitors. They’re also better than regular paper towels as they’re more absorbent and won’t leave lint behind.

Disinfect your mattress

Putting bed sheets and covers on your mattress is not enough to keep them clean. Vacuum your mattress to get rid of the dust and then spread a little baking soda over it. If left for more than an hour, the baking soda will absorb moisture and unpleasant smells and disinfect the fabric.

Clean your chopping boards

Sprinkle your chopping board with salt and using half a lemon face down, scour the surface, squeezing the lemon as you go. Let the liquid sit for five minutes and then rinse for a board that’s as good as new.

Freshen the fridge

Placing a bowl of coffee grounds in your fridge will neutralise foul odours. Just make sure to replace the grounds every couple of months.

Use your pillowcase to clean

No, really. Slip an old pillowcase over the blades of your ceiling fan one at a time and wipe. The dust will fall into the pillowcase and not all over your furniture and floors.

Save your money

Make your own non-toxic cleaners with pantry items. All you need to do is combine 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda and ¼ cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle and fill with water. This easy-as-pie concoction will do the trick on most household stains.
